24 hours on Safari

On arrival at the lodge of your choice your will be met by a member of the management staff who will welcome you to the lodge. They will give you a brief orientation of your day on safari. The day to day itinerary of the lodges varies from lodge to depending on the time of year, the weather, the game activity, the number of guests in the camp, and the individual requirements of you the guests, the following is a good guideline of what you can expect on safari !

A late lunch or High Tea is usually served on arrival at the lodge, if you have any special dietary requirements, don’t forget to tell us so that we can inform the lodge prior to your arrival. At about 15h00 you will meet at a central point where you will be introduced to your ranger or guide. Its this individual who is responsible for looking after you during your safari for the duration of your stay. Your rangers will introduce you to your tracker who is skilled in tracking animals and sits on top of the vehicle and spots the animals whilst on safari.

The afternoon safari usually commences at about 15h30, and continues into the early evening with the use of a powerful spot light. Its during this evening game drive that you can spot the predators such as Lions and Leopards as they hunt, as well as smaller nocturnal animals. During the winter months it gets very cold on safari, so dress warmly, hats, scarves and gloves are a necessity ! Just before sunset the ranger will stop the vehicle in a suitably safe place and allow you to enjoy a famous ‘ sundowner ’ cocktail.

You will return to the lodge for dinner at about 19h30 in time for dinner. Lodges do not have ‘ dress codes’ for dinner and its perfectly acceptable to come to dinner in casual attire. Dinner is often served in a variety of places depending on the lodge you are staying at. From the convivial environment of a Boma Dinner, to the romantic setting of a Verandah Dinner, the lodges will happily plan private dinners should you be celebrating a special occasion or just wanting some time alone. However, before you sit up all night, listening to your ranger regale you with safari stories, be warned… it’s a very early start in the morning !

At about 05h30 in the morning ( and even earlier in the summer ) you will be woken up and meet your ranger for early morning coffee and rusks. The game drive and safari departs shortly afterwards. You return to the lodge in time for breakfast at about 09h00. Breakfast is served at the lodge and for those guests who are departing check out time is at 11h00, for those guests who are staying on there is a chance to enjoy a bush walk with a skilled tracker.
