Getting to the Sabi Sand |
There are several ways of getting to the Kruger Park Sabi Sands Area . When planning to visit the Sabi Sand, keep in mind the average travel time it will take for you to reach your destination. You can either travel by road, which will take you approximately 5 hours (depending on which lodge you intend to visit) or you can travel by air (which we would strongly recommend!)
Scheduled Federal Air Flights
This is the most direct way of getting to the Sabi Sands. The flights depart from Johannesburg twice a day and depart from the lodges twice a day. These return flights are in region of ZAR 5000.00 per person, but are the quickest way of getting on safari. Scheduled Air Flights to Kruger Mpumalanga
Formerly known as Nelspruit Airport, Kruger Mpumalanga Airport ( Airport Code MQP ) receives scheduled flights daily from Johannesburg and Cape Town. On arrival at Kruger Mpumalanga Airport you need to take a road transfer from the airport to the lodge of your choice ( 1.5 hours ) , or you need to take a scheduled charter flight ( 30 minutes ) . Pricing this option is difficult, as fare availability fluctuates daily, although this option is usually about 2/3rds of the price of the direct scheduled federal air flights. South African Airlink ( SAA ) fly to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport.
Car Hire
Self driving to the lodges in the Sabi Sands should not be dismissed. It is an comfortable 5 – 6 hour journey from Johannesburg to the Sabi Sands. For guests with extended holiday time why not break your journey and spend some time in the beautiful Panoramic Region and explore Gods Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes, Three Rondavels, Pilgrims Rest and Graskop Areas.
