Cape Town is situated at the south western point of South Africa, within the Province of South Africa. We suggest you pre plan your travel arrangements to Cape Town before you arrive, especially since during busy times ( Easter, Christmas , Cape Argus Weekend ) things like Car Hire can be fully booked. Speak to your Ghecko Safaris consultant about the mode of transport that is most appropriate for you, depending on your itinerary, budget and where you are staying.

Air
Cape Town International Airport is the main gateway to the Western Cape and Southern African and has been the World Travel Awards’ leading airport in Africa for seven consecutive years. Cape Town International Airport receives daily flights from the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States, enabling you to fly directly to Cape Town. Direct daily flights from Cape Town to Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park ( MQP ) enable you to combine Cape Town easily and efficiently with a Kruger Park Safari. Consider flying from Cape Town to George to start your Garden Route journey.

Car Hire
All major car hire companies operate from the Airport and have city depots. Allow your Ghecko Safaris consultant to arrange your car hire for you, we have extremely competitive rate. Collect your car directly from the airport , or avoid the drive from the airport to your hotel, and at an additional cost, have your car dropped off at your hotel or guesthouse. To make your travels easier GPS Satellites are available for rent and can be prebooked. We drive on the left hand side of the road in South Africa.

Transfers / Private Guided Tours
If you prefer not to travel on your own in a hire car then speak to your Ghecko Safaris consultant about arranging transfers or a private guide. Slightly more expensive, but designed to give you the security of travelling with an experienced and professional guide. Visit Cape Point, The Cape Winelands, Hermanus, enlighten yourself on Cape Township Tour, or take a City Tour and a trip up Table Mountain. These tours can be tailormade to your specific requirements and requests. Discuss them with us.

Scheduled Day Tours
slightly more affordable way of travelling around Cape Town in the company of a professional guide is to join one of our Scheduled Day Tours. These tours depart daily, and allow you to visit Cape Point, Hermanus, The Winelands, The Townships, Jazz Tours, Gospel Tours, and City Tours. These tours depart daily at about 08h30 from your hotel and depending on the tour and its duration return in the afternoon about 17h00. Discuss your particular requirements with your Ghecko Safaris Consultant.

Taxis
There are a wide number of taxi companies in Cape Town. Whilst we strongly do not recommend that you take tours with Taxi Drivers – and believe us they will offer – Cape Town taxis are perfect for popping down out to dinner and returning home. Ask your hotel to recommend a Taxi Company however make sure they are a registered company such as Excite Taxis or Rikkis Taxis.

Minibus Taxis
Locally known as black taxis – minibus takes offer convenient but sometimes hair-raisingly fast transport along major routes. The upside is that minibus taxis are frequently available and inexpensive. Not really recommended – but for all but the budget travelers. Public Transport Cape Town’s public transport system is pretty poor. The inner city public transport is currently being over hauled in the run up to 2010 FIFA World Cup. Speculation is that the centre city and the Cape Town International Airport will have a direct rail link, as well as a dedicated lane for Bus Rapid Transit Vehicles. Watch this space …
